![]() To celebrate APO’s anniversary, APO-QAA organised a grand dinner at Governor West Bay Suites and Residence for more than a hundred APO “brothers and sisters fully committed to its three cardinal principles: Leadership, Friendship and Service”. Since then, the group attracted thousands of Filipino college men and women, many of who went on to become notable leaders, public servants in the US and in the Philippines, including thousands of professional alumni in the Middle East, APO-QAA say. The APO-QAA, the 97th recognised alumni association of Alpha Phi Omega (Philippines) International Collegiate Service Fraternity and Sorority, points out that by 1950, the organisation continued to foster leadership, friendship and service, and till today remains true to the basic principles of scouting upon which it was founded. Membership is conferred upon enrolled students of an institution of higher education at which a chapter of APO is located who are selected by that chapter to participate. Dr Horton’s view was to make APO an organisation “for college men who co-operated with all youth movements, especially scouting.”Īn inclusive group, open to all nationalities, backgrounds and genders, APO has always welcomed everyone who would like to work towards a common goal – leading through service to others. In the more than 91 years since it was founded on December 16, 1925, by Dr Frank Reed Horton at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, over 400,000 students have been part of APO. ![]() For the coeducational, national service organisation Alpha Phi Omega (APO), these are the building blocks and key rules that guide their members in college and in life.Ī boon to communities of all kinds, Alpha Phi Omega provides its members the chance “to develop leadership skills through service projects on their campus, in their community and across the nation.” As the largest collegiate fraternity in the United States of America and in the Philippines recently brought in its 91st founding anniversary across the world, the APO-Qatar Alumni Association (APO-QAA) here in Doha, celebrated the occasion in style. The professors at OUL are wonderful and make learning very enjoyable and are so invested in us as students, and I feel that they also have a hand in my success as a student.”Īs Spring Semester is underway, students are back to class and some are perhaps dedicating themselves to earn upcoming Outstanding Student honors. “I also believe that the support that I receive from my family and particularly my husband helps me to be successful as well. “I feel that my time management, organization, and overall drive to excel at all I do is what helps me to be successful in the classroom.” Julien shares. ![]() Julien, current Vice President of the Ohio University Lancaster OSEA Chapter, shares what has made her successful in the classroom and further cemented her as a Fall Semester Outstanding Student. Living busy lives, it’s not uncommon for students to fall behind in their studies. Brill is the President of the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, and Stemen is a full-time hospital worker. Keys has a part time job serving in Ohio Air National Guard. Nelson is the Ohio University Lancaster Alpha Phi Sigma Vice President as well as the President of the L.E.T. Other Outstanding Students are equally as busy as Egler. This praise feels incomprehensible and means the world to me.” I try my best to keep a good balance going. There’s obviously my family and social life to account for as well. “I work as a waitress, do freelance makeup, commission artwork and focus on various creative pursuits. “Outside of academics, I juggle quite a few responsibilities.” Egler explains. This is a sentiment that English double major Egler shares. Outstanding Students are selected based on their dedication in and out of the classroom, and given the hectic nature of life as a college student and all that is juggled at once, the praise comes as affirmation after countless hours of hard work. These students are Brody Brill, Jayden Egler, Mikayla Julien, Katy Keys, Crissy Nelson, Samantha Shepherd, Lucas Stemen and Anessa Trussell. Ohio University Lancaster announced its Outstanding Students for Fall Semester.
